A dedicated circuit is simply a circuit that serves a single appliance. They are used for major appliances that typically have a motor of some kind, including: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, furnaces, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and garbage disposals along with many other appliances.

Why would you want a dedicated circuit? Having more than one appliance on the same circuit can cause a major strain on a home's circuitry and wiring. If the circuit becomes overloaded it can overheat and cause a fire.
